Nursing Is My Passion
Tuesday, March 03, 2009
I have wanted to be a nurse since I was five years old. I first became
interested in nursing when my mother returned home after giving birth to my
baby brother. After many questions, my mother provided with a basic
explanation that lit the flame that burns so brightly today. My path to
nursing was littered by many obstacles. I had a child when I was just
sixteen and a foster child myself. Attending night school, I was able to get
my high school diploma. Five years later, I graduated as a medical
assistant. Seven years later, I graduated as an LPN. Thirteen years later, I
graduated as an RN. I am now pursuing an education as a Nurse Midwife.
Currently, I work as a labor and delivery nurse. Seeing life begin is truly
a miracle. I love advocating for patients and help them to feel empowered
during the most significant event of life. I have overcome domestic
violence, extreme poverty and am now a mother of four grown children. I am
raising two of my grandchildren. I love nursing and want to teach, inspire
and mentor other nurses. I am dedicated to making a difference in nursing.
My ultimate goal is to help alleviate the nursing shortage by infecting
others with my passion and love of nursing.
